 Debunking the Politicians' Double Standards

DO AS THEY SAY, DON’T DO       AS THEY DO…

At times, a small event of no particular importance becomes a turning point in one’s life, bringing about a much clearer insight into reality.

It happened in the course of a visit to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in Perth, where I had taken one of my children to undergo a minor surgery.

While we were waiting for our turn to be seen by the doctor, I made good use of the time by reading some excellent literature produced by the Health Department of Western Australia.

The one that attracted my attention more than any other was titled, “Let’s look at… Smoking and Your Baby”. It was produced by Princess Margaret Hospital and the Health Promotion Services Branch of the Health Department of Western Australia.

A simple, concise, down-to-earth text explained quite satisfactorily to anyone with an unbiased mind about the harm caused to unborn babies by their mothers’ smoking habits.

It succinctly demonstrated the risks presented by cigarette smoking for the unborn baby, the newborn baby and the toddler as well.

The dangers of poisoning, passive smoking, matches and lighters, emergencies, etc., were also scrutinised in that top class production.

Of course, at the end the pregnant mother and her partner were encouraged to Quit.

Very sound advice indeed: every pregnant mother should heed it for the sake of her baby’s health.

The whole community should undoubtedly give this Government initiative our full support, especially because ordinarily we do not enjoy too many of such opportunities.

A few paragraphs from the “Let’s look at… Smoking and Your Baby” are certainly worth reproducing here:

  • Did you know that even before birth, tobacco smoke can damage YOUR BABY?
  • Nicotine inhaled by a mother during pregnancy – or exhaled by others smoking nearby – passes through the bloodstream via the placenta into the UNBORN BABY.
  • For your own health and that of YOUR BABY, try to give up smoking in THE FIRST THREE MONTHS OF PREGNANCY. If you do give up, and you stay off tobacco, YOUR BABY should be born with no adverse effects from your earlier smoking.” (emphasis added)

Here both the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and the Health Department of Western Australia make it abundantly clear that the one being harmed by your smoking during the first three months of pregnancy is YOUR BABY, YOUR CHILD, your own flesh and blood, she who carries your characteristics and those of her father for life. Your baby may well look like you!

Yes, by all means, do heed this salutary Government advice: quit smoking during your pregnancy!

THREE MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTIONS

Three Questions For Pregnant Mothers To Ask Our Government:

1. IS MY BABY BEING HARMED by my smoking during the first three months of my pregnancy?

YES, the WA Government says. And they earnestly encourage you to Quit. Do listen to them. Don’t harm your own flesh and blood.

2. Am I allowed to have that same baby of mine killed, if I so choose?

YES, YOU ARE. The WA Government has also passed legislation that allows you to have THAT VERY SAME BABY KILLED. If you’ve made a choice based on your “informed consent”, they will respect your ‘choice’ and not try to change your mind. In WA you may have your baby killed not merely during those three months, but also up to twenty weeks, and even later under special circumstances.

3. In conclusion, does my child’s life have any value at all?

YES AND NO. Yes, if you want to keep her. No, if you choose to have her killed. Both options are supported by your ‘caring’ Government. Your baby's life has the same value as a slave in a barbarian tribe:  if the master turns his thumb upwards, the slave lives. if he turns it downwards, the slave dies. As simple as that.

Please think for a moment:

What to think about this contradiction? Is it the by-product of an insane mind? Or is it just a sick politician's joke?

Please read on. It gets more interesting.

SMOKING AND ABORTING

Most Australians – especially smokers – must have seen the compulsory warnings that the tobacco companies are obliged to print right in the front of the cigarette pack: "SMOKING IS ADDICTIVE", "SMOKING CAUSES LUNG CANCER", “SMOKING KILLS”, but the best one is, “SMOKING WHEN PREGNANT HARMS YOUR BABY”.

BUT – you may rightly ask – why am I not supposed to smoke when pregnant because it might harm my baby - and yet I am allowed to abort THAT SAME BABY if I so choose?

Good question! Since the one you are carrying in your womb in the first three months of pregnancy is YOUR BABY, why does your Government allow you to destroy her life through ABORTION?

Why is it that they respect your informed consent on abortion, but bombard you with propaganda to interfere with your informed consent on smoking?

How can anti-smoking, pro-aborting parliamentarians have the nerve to pretend they care about the health of UNBORN BABIES threatened by smoking, since they allow over 8,000 of them to be ‘legally’ murdered every year in WA alone?

It takes no great intellect to realise that the same principle applies to other Australian states, as well as countries in North America, Europe and everywhere else whose government has legalised abortion.

To be consistent, Health Department authorities should warn you not to smoke when pregnant IF AND ONLY IF you wish to keep your baby. But if you do not wish to keep her and choose to abort her life, what difference will your smoking or not smoking make to her health? Her health – and life – will be destroyed anyway!

"SMOKING WHEN PREGNANT HARMS YOUR BABY", reads the warning on your cigarette pack.

"ABORTING WHEN PREGNANT KILLS YOUR BABY", they should warn you at the reception of every abortion clinic.

OPEN LETTER

OPEN LETTER TO ANTI-SMOKING, PRO-ABORTION POLITICIANS

The Health Department encourages every pregnant mother not to smoke during the first three months of pregnancy for the sake of her baby’s health. They do not refer to the one being damaged in her womb as ‘your embryo’, ‘your foetus’, ‘your blob of cells’ or your ‘uterine growth'. They say, ‘Your Baby’. They call her a ‘mother’, not 'just a pregnant female’.

And rightly so. She is a human mother, and she carries a marvellous little being in the enclosure of her womb: a child. Her very own child.

At the same time, the legislation passed by you and/or those of like mind allows - and funds - that same mother to have that very same baby killed.

In Western Australia, a mother can have her unborn baby killed up to twenty weeks into the pregnancy, and sometimes even later than that.

You, politician, clearly respect the mother’s ‘informed consent’ regarding abortion. And yet you advise her to change her ‘informed consent’ regarding smoking. If she chooses to smoke during pregnancy, you say, Quit! But if to abort during pregnancy, you say, it’s your ‘choice’.

In plain English, what your double standard policy says is: If you wish to keep your child, do not smoke. The chance of harming her worries us. But if you wish to have her killed, no worries, it’s your choice.

Be consistent and have the courage to state that the unborn child’s health and life have value only if she is wanted. Her mother should not smoke IF AND ONLY IF she chooses to let the baby live. If she chooses to have her baby’s life ‘terminated’, you’ll support her ‘choice’.

What difference will smoking or not smoking make to her baby’s health? The child will die anyway!

How can you have the nerve to pretend that you “care” about the health of unborn babies damaged by smoking, all the while refusing to legislate to stop nearly one hundred thousand babies being legally murdered every year in Australia - and we, the taxpayers, foot the bill?

At times, I think that to have the likes of you in Parliament is like holding a thick cloud of cigarette smoke in the lungs - it is hazardous for Australia’s health.

I sincerely believe that to fight the evil of smoking while condoning the immensely greater evil of abortion is a double-standard policy, fraught with contradictions and hypocrisy.

Both evils must be fought, especially the greater one that kills 100% of its victims and leaves thousands of mothers damaged in both mind and body.

THE BIG CASHING IN

IF SMOKING IS SO BAD, WHY DON’T YOU MAKE IT ILLEGAL, ONCE AND FOR ALL?

The answer is quite simple: Because there is big money coming in from the excise duty imposed upon the tobacco companies!

According to Anne Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Action on Smoking and Health Australia:

“The federal government collects over $5 billion p.a. on excise duties from cigarettes and on average spends as little as $2 million a year on anti-smoking education. The excise percentage is around 70% of the retail price so the federal government makes more money out of smokers than the tobacco companies do”.

Fancy that! $5 billion in income, a mere $2 million spent in public anti-smoking education, not a cent spent in public anti-abortion education...!

To be consistent, at the very, very least, the Government’s anti-smoking education should be matched by an equivalent anti-abortion education: They should spend the same amount of funding and resources in anti-abortion awareness projects as they spend in anti-smoking.

Otherwise, clear-thinking Australians will continue to believe that anti-smoking pro- choice politicians’ ‘concern’ for people’s health remains flawed, fake, and pharisaic.

CHALLENGING THE DOUBLE STANDARDS

Anti-Smoking, pro-aborting politicians in both the State and Federal Parliaments must be challenged on their contradiction, for the sake of the health of the whole community, not only smokers, but also and especially the helpless, defenceless unborn.

There is an ongoing argument about smoking-related diseases, and the harm they cause to the health of the community, including many deaths. In several countries, tobacco companies and the anti-smoking lobby fight a truceless war, sometimes all the way up to the courts. The argument rages on. Good: Let the truth prevail!

By the same token, there no argument whatsoever about the deaths caused by abortion: IN 100% OF CASES, THE UNBORN CHILD DIES! And in many cases, the mother suffers irreparable physical and psychological damage, many more than the pro-abortion politicians would have us believe!

The mother is often left with a long series of side-effects, such as, risks of breast and cervical cancer, bleeding, infertility, psychological traumas, guilt, etc., etc.!

But both your Government and anti-smoking lobbyists are remarkably silent on this widespread atrocity.

If the pro-health stance of your Government is to deserve any credence by encouraging smokers to Quit, let them also encourage abortionists to Quit!

Let us live in a healthier society, with neither smoking nor aborting. Australia will be much better off this way.

It is our considerate opinion that the policy of anti-smoking pro-abortion politicians is a double-standard, hypocritical, two-faced contradiction: to try to draw a square circle would be easier than to understand what goes on in their convoluted brains.

A YOUNG JEWISH RABBI SPEAKS UP!

This comprehensive educational initiative has drawn much encouragement from a speech delivered by a young Rabbi at the local Jewish place of worship. He showed the utmost contempt and abhorrence towards authorities who indulged in double standard policies. He said:

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you go round about the sea and the land to make one proselyte. And when he is made, you make him the child of hell twofold more than yourselves.

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you make clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but within you are full of rapine and uncleanness.

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you are like whited sepulchers, which outwardly appear to men beautiful but within are full of dead men’s bones and of all filthiness. So you also outwardly indeed appear to men just: but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

"Woe to you, blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel. ‘You serpents, generation of vipers, how will you flee from the judgment of hell?"

Wow! Hypocrites, children of hell, full of rapine and uncleanness, whited sepulchers, full of hypocrisy and iniquity; blind guides, serpents, generation of vipers…!

When it comes to exposing the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, no pulling punches with that young Rabbi, that’s for sure! (Full text of the Rabbi’s speech can be read in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 23)

UNFAIR DISCRIMINATION

Smokers are the most discriminated-against class of people in the Western world: they are forbidden to light up in the workplace, public transports, buildings, airplanes, restaurants, schools, shopping malls, virtually everywhere.     You can see them sometimes, both men and women, standing or squatting on the sidewalk outside a building, pretending not to be on display, and yet looking as guilty as sin, as some passers-by frown upon them and public authorities speak of limiting even more the places when they can have a puff.

And yet those who procure abortions, both the men who push their partners into having their baby killed and the women who undergo the killing procedure, are not the object of scorn and horror for doing something immensely worse than smoking.

Again, Tobacco companies are criticised, maligned, reviled, scorned, belittled, denigrated as public enemy number 1 for allegedly making money out of other people's illnesses. Heavy excise duties are imposed on them (usually around 70% of the retail price), they are forbidden to advertise their product - which is not illegal - are taken to court, sued for damages, you name it. In the meantime, Governments cash in the billions of dollars from their sales.

And yet abortionist doctors who do the killing and pro-"choice" politicians who make it legal and State-funded, the whole abortion industry that murders more unborn children every day than any Nazi executioner, Communist gulag prison torturer or fanatic suicidal terrorist today, are not the object of horror and revulsion, as they so richly deserve.

Why is it that to harm one’s baby health by smoking IS NOT ON, but to have that same baby killed, IS?

My, O my, how efficiently has propaganda manipulated our criteria of judgment!

THE BEATTY JOKE

But the big joke came from Queensland Premier Peter Beatty. On 7 September 2004, he appeared on TV announcing much tougher anti-smoking legislation to be imposed upon smokers in Queensland:

In the sunshine state, smoking will be forbidden in pubs and open public places such as flagged beaches and near playgrounds. Wow! How will Mr. Beatty’s government monitor those places? By employing an army of Wardens at tax-payers expense? Or just by placing surveillance cameras in pubs and beaches?

While he’s busy curtailing the freedom of smokers in such places, Queensland has reportedly an average of 14,000 abortions per annum.

That means nearly 40 babies killed every day in Queensland.

About the new promised tougher anti-smoking legislation, Mr Beatty said:

“Look, not everyone will be in love with it, but this is about saving lives!”

   Saving lives, says he!

Ha! This one takes the biscuit! Does this bloke take himself seriously?

But there is more: what about smoking in Queensland's many legal brothels? Will prostitutes be fined if they accept clients who wish to smoke in that business legalised by Mr Beatty’s Government? How will they monitor such places? By employing an army of Wardens knocking at doors at the smell of smoke? Or just by placing surveillance cameras in brothel rooms?

My, oh my, this time, Mr. Beatty, Big Brother(s) will be REALLY watching!

HELP FOR SMOKERS, DEATH FOR BABIES

Still, smokers have a real choice: they can defend themselves from potential harm and prevent a possible early death – they can always heed the Government advice and Quit. There is plenty of help available.

But the unborn child is totally defenceless in the face of certain death. No help is available to her. Once the ‘informed consent’ has been accepted, the termination sentence will be executed. The Government does not offer the necessary, equivalent advice to prevent her death.

If having one’s baby killed is a legal ‘right’, because some say that it’s just a blob of cells, (“Whose body is it anyway?”), why isn’t smoking a ‘right’ as well? Whose body is it anyway? Why am I not allowed to harm my lungs and throat and heart, or my baby, but I am allowed to have my baby’s life taken away, tearing to pieces not only her lungs and throat and heart but her whole little body?

Are anti-smoking pro-abortion politicians out of their mind?

That’s why I sincerely and truly believe that to fight the evils of smoking and not to fight the much greater evils of abortion is a double-standard policy, fraught with contradictions and hypocrisy.

That’s also why I think that having those jokers in Parliament is like holding a thick cloud of cigarette smoke in your lungs - it is hazardous for Australia’s health.

A SOLUTION

(To put politicians’ sense of justice to the test)

Short term: The Government must spend at least 2 million dollars per annum to educate the public on the dangers of abortion. The education effort is to be carried out in conjunction with a coalition of Pro-Life individuals and groups. Education must include graphic depictions of abortion to be shown on national television and billboards so that potential clients of the industry may see what happens, just as graphic depictions of smoking-related diseases are depicted on TV and billboards for smokers to see.

Medium-term: Smoking on demand is already forbidden by law and smokers have less and less opportunity to light up (and even so in restricted places). Likewise, abortion on demand must be immediately outlawed and potential abortions must be given less and less opportunity to occur.

Long term: Australia, a full-fledged smoke-free zone! Australia, a full-fledged abortion-free zone! The Government will provide assistance to smokers to Quit the cancer stick, as well as to potential aborting mothers to Quit the idea of having their baby killed, and send the abortionist doctors to the unemployment queue.

What that joyful day will come, then, and only then, we’ll begin to trust those politicians again.

That is, quit smoking and quit aborting. Smoking when pregnant HARMS your baby’s health. Abortion when pregnant KILLS your baby!

CALL TO ACTION

St Gabriel Communications believes that the two-faced anti-smoking pro-abortion stance of certain politicians needs to be unmasked as flawed, fake and pharisaic.

St Gabriel Communications demands consistency on the part of those mere politicians (MPs) who make a big fuss about smoking and yet support the murder of innocent unborn children.

St Gabriel Communications intends to fund-raise in order to finance advertisements in newspapers, radio and television to debunk the myth of such MPs being ‘caring’ regarding the health of the wider community threatened by smoking, especially unborn babies.

This is a healthy mind and body awareness project of Saint Gabriel Communications. It is a educational initiative aimed to unmask the double standard policy of the self-righteous, anti-smoking, pro abortion politicians.

ATTENTION SMOKERS

Please consider quitting, or at least reduce it a great deal, like reserving for only after a cup of coffee, for instance. I know what it’s like, because I’ve done it myself. I did Quit years ago.

As you endeavour to smoke less and less, the money you will save could be very well employed in supporting worthy pro-life causes, especially St Gabriel Communications efforts to unmask the two-faced policy of those anti-smoking, pro-abortion politicians whose presence pollute the breathing air of our Parliaments.

If you feel hurt by the discrimination you have suffered in the hands of those double-faced MP's, don't just Quit smoking for your health's sake. Do more than that: Quit, yes, by all means, but also get back at them ‘Mere Politicians' for those long years of discrimination against you: help Saint Gabriel Communications debunk the myth that they ‘care' for children's health: Help us publicly unmask their pharisaic double standard policy on smoking and aborting. And, in the next election, let us vote for people who are CONSISTENT – that is, intellectually honest.
